Woman

Welcome to the Illinois Healthcare Portal Women’s Health Page. Governor Blagojevich has consistently made improving women’s health a priority. He has fought to protect your right to contraception and been able to increase funding for breast and cervical cancer screenings so that thousands more women can get access to screening and treatment. Read more below about programs available to Illinois women or call the Illinois Women’s Health-Line at 1-888-522-1282 (TTY 1-800-547-0466) for any of your healthcare concerns.

birth control is now covered

Contraception Coverage is now the law in Illinois. Governor Blagojevich enacted legislation that requires all private insurance companies in Illinois to cover FDA-approved birth control devices and services such as birth control pills, patches, implants, shots, IUDs, and diaphragms. Visit our Web site http://www.contraceptives.illinois.gov/ for information on contraceptives commonly covered by providers and how you can file a complaint if your birth control prescriptions are not being covered.

Governor Blagojevich recently issued an emergency rule that orders every pharmacy in Illinois that sells contraceptives to accept and fill all birth control prescriptions without delay. No pharmacy should be able to come between you and your doctor. Unfortunately, both here in Illinois and across the nation, that hasn’t always been the case. This rule states that if you have a valid prescription, it must get filled promptly and reliably. No questions asked. If you experience any problems getting your prescription filled, please let us know by calling us at 1-800-280-4149 or file a complaint online.
