If you are sexually assaulted and receive
treatment at a hospital, The Illinois Sexual Assault
Survivors Emergency Treatment Program will pay the
cost of emergency department care and transportation by
ambulance if you do not have health insurance that covers your
care. The program will also pay for up to two follow-up visits
at the emergency room if they occur within six weeks of the
initial visit. HFS will only accept bills from the hospital
that provided the initial care. Sexual assault survivors
should speak with a hospital social worker to arrange for
billing to the Department of Healthcare and Family Services.
